Do you Really Need a New Garage Door?
here are plenty of companies that can offer a Garage Door Repair Service this can sometimes work out expensive for replacing the garage door cables or fitting a garage door lock.
Time and time again customers call me to say that they have just had a Company out to repair the garage door expecting them to replace the cables and roller spindles or to fit new garage door springs which would get the door working like new, but to be told that "You need a new garage door"?
The customer goes onto the stress that even though there is nothing
wrong with the garage door, ie, no rust, no dents, and that they could
see the door lasting another 25 years, the Garage Dor Repair Company
recommends that a new door is fitted.
I have heard selling and scare tactics such as:
If the door is not repalced the cables might break later on and the door may fall on your car?
The garage door parts needed are now obsolete?
The door is past its sell by date?
Please do not fall for the non of the above unless you have had 3 quotes and all are saying the same!
If in doubt please take some photos of the parts that are broken and send them to me.
I can then give advice on how best to repair the door and also a price for the parts.
If the parts are no longer available I may be able to source an alternative part!
It Makes Sense to Fix Your Garage Door!
In these tough economic times, maintenance and refurbishment makes far more sense than replacement.
Most improvements or refurbishments on houses and gardens end up
costing far more than was originally expected. By trying to do as much
of the work yourself within your capabilities is going to help at times
like these.
Garage doors for example are items that
if working properly are marvellous and can add to a properties
aesthetics and value. We all take for granted the opening and closing of
the garage door on a day to day basis, usually with very little though
as to any routine maintenance!
So imagine the horror when the cables, rollers spindles, springs or even the garage door handle breaks and you are left unable to gain access to your car, motorcycle, freezer or garden equipment!
An old garage door can look shabby and make the whole property look less
desirable especially when it comes to selling a property. A well looked
after garage door in good decorative order is all part of the external
appeal of a house. Routine maintenance of oiling all moving parts can
prolong the life of any garage door, especially if near to the coast.
(salt erosion)
The cables and cones or even the garage springs are the main components on garage doors
that do tend to need replacing first usually due to wear and tear or
damage, if fitted correctly and with routine maintenance there is no
reason the running parts should not last average 20 years or more!!
The cables and springs can often be easily and cost effectively replaced.
